Who is Eligible?

Island Elderly Housing receives government funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA).

For some of the apartments, an applicant must be at least 62 years of age and meet federal guidelines of very low income.

For other apartments, applicants can be non-elderly persons with disabilities.

If an applicant qualifies, the amount of rent and some utilities are calculated not to exceed 30% of their adjusted monthly income.

Eligibility for HUD-Funded Units

In order to be eligible for one of our HUD-funded units, the majority of our housing, an applicant must be at least 62 years of age and meet income guidelines.

For all of our HUD-funded units

  • the maximum annual income limit for one person is $48,150

  • for two persons, the maximum annual income limit is $55,000

Eligibility for USDA-Rural Development Untits

Our Hillside Village I complex accepts applicants from non-elderly persons with disabilities and from applicants with low or moderate incomes as well. Please call IEH for further information on these USDA-Rural Development Income limits.
